HOW TO BECOME A GOOD PARENT TO YOU AUTISTIC CHILD
from: Lily WoodsIf you have an autistic child, parenting can be trickier. Things will never go according to plan and at some days you wish to hide in your bedroom and never has to come out. As parents, you need to stay strong and focused for your child. Here are some ways you can adopt to get through the day.
Keeping a journal can be a good coping method. You can write everything inside, including your hopes, anger and frustrations. No one else will read the journal so there is no guilt involved. It becomes your private place to vent out all your negative thoughts. On a more positive note, a journal can help you keep track on the development of your autistic child. Write about methods you use and the results you observed.
If there is a support group near your neighborhood, find some time to join in. by doing so, you don’t feel alone in the parenting battle. Having someone else who experiences and feels same as you can be relieving. Who knows, you may learn a thing or two from other parents. The most important is having other people who listen other than you own therapist who might not understand the situation at all.
As a reward for yourself, take some time off. Get a qualified person to babysit for three days or so. Go for a nice dinner or movie with your spouse. You can also leave town if the time permits. You need some time to unwind and recharge for future challenges. So, periodic break is a must.
As the mother of your child, you feel that you need to do everything in your might to help and guide him. But this is not the case all the time. When you feel that the child behavior is beyond your control, special help is required. Get qualified therapist and talk into treatment for your autistic child. If you insist on teaching and caring your child yourself, the frustration and stress is not good on both you and the child. You can even ask your older child to help with some house chores and make them understand the situation you are having. Teach them to take care of their special sibling who has autism.
Having an Autistic child is a hard job. Having ways to cope will make your job easier. It will also make things better for your child by having you calm and stress free parenting. Find out more from
